oh, also.. i'm new to this whole record ripping thing. i'm curious what your gear is. my record rips have been not so great in my opinion thus far, but i've got a whole new rig coming that should make them pretty much flawless. (at least for a mid-level stylus. i'm not rich enough for a fancy one)

Ah, I think my rips aren't so great either. I have a laptop and not a desktop computer, so I'm unable to input directly into my soundcard. I use a USB input device instead. I think my rips come out a bit thin and noisy, but hey I'm doing you all a favor, right?

haha yeah. i think they sound pretty fine, but i'm no real audiophile when it comes to that. i'd rather hear it than not, ya know? i'm excited about my new rig. now only if it was easier to get my hands on japanese records without paying astronomical amounts of money.

oh, also.. haha sorry, don't mean to chat your ear off... something i learned while i was researching getting my rig.. the thin-ness you speak of is probably because you should really have a phono preamp in your setup. i guess records are actually pressed with the bass shrunk to fit more information, so phono pre-'s have a built in eq stage that is RIAA certified to rebalance the record. never knew that myself.

Nah, I don't need a preamp. If I needed one and were lacking it, the volume would be nearly inaudible. It's not that information is shrunk on a record (it's really not "information" in the analog format), but rather that turntables output at a low level. A preamp doesn't do any EQing, it simple pre-amplifies a signal to line-level. Most turntables these days have built-in preamps. I think my problem is recording via USB... it picks up an electronic whine and can also pick up harddrive noise. I have to disconnect from the internet when I'm ripping vinyl because it will pick up processing noises if I don't. I also am currently ripping without EQing until the digital stage, which is probably not ideal...

This is most wonderful and thanks very much. Just a quick observation: the two tracks have been swapped during the naming / tagging process. The "Boku no Katamuki" track is actually "Angel Orphan" and vice versa. Terrific stuff nontheless.
